Oscar-winning Hollywood star, Christoph Waltz, is under investigation by German prosecutors for tax evasion, according to media reports.
The Berlin prosecutor's office is investigating German-Austrian actor, Christoph Waltz, for tax fraud, according to a report in Germany's mass-circulation Bild newspaper on Thursday. Reportedly, the amount of money in question is a six-digit figure.
Bild reports tax investigators discovered the name of the 59-year-old Hollywood star on a CD with tax data files bought by the Finance Ministry of the Western State of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), which then passed the information on to the Berlin prosecutor.
Supposedly, the actor who starred in "Inglorious Basterds," "Django Unchained" and the most recent James Bond film "Spectre" transferred money to a number account abroad.
The investigations have been ongoing for a while, Bild writes, adding that both the prosecutor's office and Christoph Waltz, who is currently on a promotion tour for "Legend of Tarzan," declined to comment on the accusations.
Since the initial publication of this article, Waltz's attorneys contacted DW to say that the case is subject to laws of fiscal secrecy and personal privacy and that he should be presumed innocent at this time.
Furthermore, Waltz has filed an interim injuction against Bild, which prohibits reports regarding possible tax evasion.
