Toke Makinwa is the cover girl for the latest issue of Fame Magazine,
and the theme for the September Issue shoot shows Toke Makinwa in a slum
neighborhood. In one of the photos, Toke stands tall, angelic and regal
in the midst of shabbily dressed kids.
This photo in
particular has been heavily criticized by Nigerians as promoting
Western media's racist notions that Africa is filled with poor
communities.
Another view holds that the contrast between Toke and the kids is too glaring to be ignored as she stands like a white goddess in the midst of black shabbiness. Some even pointed out that there are only two kids smiling in the photo.
